Since 1991, at home and abroad Jeju has remarked as the island where national leaders including Russia, US. Japan and China around Korean Peninsula have discussion on world peace.

World leaders' visits proved that Jeju island is a safe and peaceful place to take a rest and talk.
In 1991, President Gorvachov visited Jeju to have a Korea-Soviet Union Summit (Apr. 19-20, 1991). The visit was an significant basis of terminating the Cold War. After this visit, Jeju Island became the main place of summit in East Asia.
The visit made by Japanese Prime Minister Hashimoto Ryuta and the summit (Apr. 16-17, 1996) between him and President Kim caused the partnership between both nations to be strengthened.
The summit between Korea and US.(Apr. 16-17, 1996) was a big fruit for US. President Clinton and President Kim to propose "the four party talks" to seek a peace settlement and tension relief on Korean Peninsula.
Moreover, in the summit (Jul. 21-22, 2004), Japanese Prime Minister Goizmi and President Roh discussed about the six party talks on relation improvement between Korea and Japan, encouragement of free visits and peaceful solution of North Korean nuclear weapon in order to peacefully solve the issue of North Korea's nuclear weapon.

The numbers of world leaders who have visited and have summitted meeting so far are 11 countries and 19 people. (Refer to table 1)

The facts that world leaders have visited Jeju and numerous summit meetings have been held in Jeju prove that Jeju is a safe and peaceful region enough to rest and talk. Its geopolitical location and well-supplied infrastructure also are proper reasons for that facts.
Jeju Island has played a major role in the respect of both improvement of the separation condition and the international political process for solution of conflicts and peace settlement between Northeast Asia and the world.

If Jeju is designated as an Island of World Peace, the Government should develop Jeju as a location of major talks on peace collaboration of Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia and into a Geneva of Northeast Asia. For this, it should build a support system and relevant infrastructure.
The Government will develop Jeju into the diplomatic center in East Asia as a location of main talks related to peace cooperation in Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia

ㆍProviding infrastructure and strengthening the supporting system of the Government to promote
ㆍas the diplomatic center in East Asia
ㆍContributing to emboding the age of peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia while succeeding
ㆍin concrete the Northeast Asia Peace Cooperation body in which countries adjacent to Korean
ㆍPeninsula and Northeast Asia take part in medium and long term period
ㆍKeep using Jeju as the place for foreign leaders to visit for summit meeting and international
